Under the new rules issued by the Ministry of Education, now students of class 5th and 8th can be failed for failing in the annual examination. After this, they will be given a chance to re-examine within two months. If he is not successful in this examination also, he will not be promoted to the next class. This new provision is a change from the previously implemented system, where students till class 8 were promoted to the next class without examination.
Actually, from the year 2010-2011, the board examinations of class 5th and 8th were abolished, due to which the students were sent to the next class. Even if he has not succeeded in the examination. Due to this system the standard of school education continued to decline. Due to which the results of 10th and 12th board exams also started getting worse.
When will it be implemented?
With the new change, state governments will now get the right to conduct board exams in classes 5th and 8th if they wish. Notification in this regard has been issued in the order issued by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, which will be known as ‘Right of Children to Free Compulsory Education Amendment Rules 2024’. These rules have come into effect with immediate effect after being published in the Government Gazette.
